Although you do not have to have a referral to see a psychologist, most clients are referred by either their family doctor or psychiatrist. This is mostly in the form of a Mental Health Care Plan under the Federal Government Better Outcomes Program, which entitles you up to 10 subsidised sessions per year.

Each psychologist sets their own fees according to their qualifications and experience. Our receptionist can discuss fees and payment options with you. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan you will receive a rebate from Medicare. This rebate is $124.50 for seeing an endorsed Clinical Psychologist and $84.80 for seeing a Registered Psychologist.

Most consultations are between 50 minutes and 1 hour.

Yes. Some psychologists practice specific forms of therapy you may be interested in. You can either choose your therapist yourself based upon your relationship or knowledge of them, or ask your doctor who would be most appropriate.

Your psychologist will discuss with you the likely course of therapy. This will depend upon the nature of your concerns.

Our receptionist contacts you as a reminder for each appointment and it is ultimately your responsibility to attend. Cancellations with at least 24 hours notice will not incur a fee. Last minute cancellations and non-attended consultations will automatically incur the full fee unless discussed with your psychologist.

Psychology on Hay adheres to the Federal Government Privacy Legislation. A copy of our privacy policy is available upon request. Your information is regarded as confidential within the limits afforded by Federal and State law.

The therapy you receive will be negotiated between you and your psychologist and will depend on your presenting issues and budget limitations. How your therapy will progress will be discussed with your psychologist in the first session.

All psychologists have to be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia under the Australian Health Practitioners Agency (AHPRA). AHPRA is the licensing body for all health practitioners including doctors, nurses and physiotherapists. Any complaints or feedback regarding specific practitioners can be directed to AHPRA.
